Message from Orsola Lussignoli:

Hazardous extreme events cannot be prevented. Earthquakes, cyclones, landslides and droughts show this year after year. However, anticipatory disaster risk management can prevent these events from turning into disasters, and early warning systems play a decisive role in this. What are the fundamental factors of early warning systems that are globally important and are there regional differences? Can best-practice examples be identified and what will be particularly important in the future in order to improve early warning systems? The workshop presents approaches and experiences from partner countries of German development cooperation for the effective implementation of local early warning systems and the associated importance for strengthening local capacities.
